WHITE SHADE

The client's desire for clean, pure forms and an undivided living space drove this design. The other main objective was to comply with the NSW Housing Policy so the time required for the approval process would be significantly reduced.

The design incorporates the sustainable principles of orientation, controlled thermal mass, natural lighting and ventilation and passive solar heating to create comfortable spaces without the need for air-conditioning.

The siting of the house was important to acheive good orientation and open the long side of the building to the northern sun. The living spaces on the ground floor open completely to the garden and pool. The bedrooms on the first floor are wrapped by a balcony along the north, east and west which has glimpses of the city and suburbs.
