This magnificent property overlooking Fern Bay has an incredible fall of 26 metres across the length of the site.
The bulk of the existing four storey dwelling faces south with a single storey and garaging on the neothern and street side.
The design solution required a radical redesign and refurbishment of the original house which included the removal of a portion of the building to create a deep western courtyard exposing the sculpted beauty of a sandstone rockface. The courtyard opens every level of the house to the northern sun.
Light is introduced to the existing dark spaces through new clerestorey windows under a sharp new roofline. A new stairwell threads it's way down the inside of the courtyard and draws light into the four storey circulation paths.
The presentation of the house has been lifted from a dark and bleak run down 1970's building to a light filled contemporary home that acknowledges the magnificent site and drama of it's location.
